Dr. Mark Hickman Eases Fears Surrounding the Cost and Efficacy of the Vasectomy Reversal Procedure

Dr. Mark Hickman, considered by many to be one of the best vasectomy reversal surgeons in the nation, is helping patients all over the country afford a vasectomy reversal.

Dr. Hickman is one of the earliest pioneers of laparoscopic surgery in the United States, the science of performing minimally invasive surgeries using the laparoscope, a telescopic fiber optic instrument. Dr. Hickman has adopted his expertise in the laparoscopic technique to perform vasectomies that are much safer and much more affordable than what people have been led to believe about the procedure.

Dr. Hickman explains how far technology has come by saying, “There used to be some hesitation about getting a vasectomy reversal because of doubts about the procedure’s efficacy. Moreover, earlier vasectomy reversal techniques were also very expensive. So, naturally, families did not opt for vasectomy reversals as the cost was prohibitive and they did not guarantee results. However, this doesn’t apply anymore. Today, due to the way we approach the procedure, patients can be assured that they will get back the ability to bring a precious life into this world. Though the first vasectomy reversal surgery, or vasovasostomy, may not immediately yield results, you can rest assured that we have solutions for all contingencies. At Microsurgical Vasectomy Reversals, our patients also won’t have to bear any additional costs in case post-surgery repairs need to be performed. So, if you are set on expanding your family with another one of God’s gifts, call us today to schedule a consultation to find out how we can help you get back that ability, naturally.”

Dr. Hickman offers two all-inclusive affordable vasectomy reversal options. Along with the microsurgical vasectomy reversal, the $3,300 offer includes local anesthesia and an oral sedative. The $4,200 offer is performed under IV sedation administered by a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist. Both microsurgical options are all-inclusive with no hidden fees.

During the procedure, Dr. Mark Hickman performs a microsurgical repair of the vas deferens with a powerful operating microscope and fine nylon suture, the latter of which is finer than a human being’s hair. A typical repair requires 10-15 stitches. The goal of the procedure is to create direct and careful alignment of the lumen of the two ends of the vas and a watertight closure for a higher success rate. After the procedure, a sample of fluid from the testicular end of the vas deferens is placed on a glass slide and examined manually under a microscope to determine whether the vasovasostomy was a success or failure.

There are three possibilities. The first and best situation is that the fluid contains whole sperm. The second possible scenario, and more common, is that the fluid is thin and contains only sperm parts or no whole sperm. The third is that the fluid is thick, pasty, and contains no sperm. The last scenario suggests an obstruction called an epididymal blowout, an obstruction of the vas deferens at the vasectomy site, and by rupture of the tube in the epididymis.

To repair an epididymal blowout, a vasoepididymostomy must be performed. The surgeon cannot make this determination by the age of vasectomy but only by examination of the semen. Both sites require repair for a successful outcome, and these procedures can be accomplished at the same time. The technique for a vasoepididymostomy is a microscopic invagination of the epididymal tube into the lumen of the vas deferens using 10-0 nylon sutures. As Dr. Hickman mentioned in his statement, at Microsurgical Vasectomy Reversals, the cost of performing the vasoepididymostomy, if required, is included in the base price of the affordable vasectomy reversal package.
