Former U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commissioner Jill E. Sommers joins the IFM.
PRLog - Nov. 7, 2013 - WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Institute for Financial Markets (IFM) today announced that former Commodity Futures Trading Commissioner Jill E. Sommers has joined the nonprofit foundation as a consultant. Sommers, who was one of two Republican members on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, stepped down earlier this year from the five-member agency that regulates the U.S. derivatives market.

“We’re thrilled to have Jill on board. She brings a passion for education and wealth of expertise at a critical time as financial reforms are being implemented,” said IFM Chairman Peter F. Borish. As a consultant to the IFM, Sommers will focus on new efforts to expand the footprint of the IFM to provide important educational services to those in, those impacted by, and those who have an impact on the exchange-traded derivatives industry.

Throughout her career, Sommers has worked in the derivatives industry in a variety of capacities. Prior to her work at the CFTC, she was the Policy Director and Head of Government Affairs for the International Swaps and Derivatives Association. She also worked in the Government Affairs Office for the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and began her career working on Capitol Hill.
