Creating the perfect home decor takes time and planning. Translating your dream decor to reality can be hard. When you see beautiful design, it can be hard to imagine how you can recreate it for yourself. Instead of trying to replicate designs from Pinterest or interior magazines, personalize your decor. Take inspiration from trends, but pay attention to the small details to create a unique space.

Entrance

The outside of your home is what makes the first impression. When guests arrive, the first thing they see is the hallway. The eye is sometimes drawn to the floor first, so this is a great place to start for adding detail. Patterned concrete tiles are on-trend and look great in hallways. They’re practical too. Add colour and print to the floor to bring a small place alive. If your hallway is dark, then add some more lighting or a large mirror. The hallway is a good place for some seasonal decor, like pumpkins in the Fall or fresh flowers in Spring.

Most homes have the staircase in the hallway. Whether your stairs are simple, or an interesting shape, you can show off this key part of the room. Focus on the steps and the rail and make the staircase a focal point of the entrance hall. Make use of the space under the stairs by adding in a downstairs bathroom, somewhere to hang coats, or hang family photos, depending on how much space there is.

How much storage is there in your hallway? We all have coats, shoes, and bags that need somewhere to go, and so do your guests. Add a bench to sit on to take shoes on and off, hooks for coats, and maybe an umbrella stand. If you have space, a credenza table with drawers is good for sorting the post and storing items like keys, sunglasses, and other things you need to grab on your way out the door.

Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of the home, but one that is often overlooked when it comes to adding small touches of decor.

If you’re on a stricter budget, you can change things up without spending much by changing the colour of your kitchen cabinets. You can upgrade your cabinet doors or just the handles. Whether you dream of a country kitchen, or a sleek design, add colour to create a place to cook that you love being in. Look around for stylish, but long-lasting worktops, handles, knobs, and light fittings to bring the whole look together. If you feel daring, choose a bright colour.

If you’re not sure about the bright colours in the kitchen trend, you can opt for neutrals for a more classic, chic style. You could keep it simple with fresh white, and keep things airy and bright. Choose floor tiles that are on the same theme. Add some touches of metallics for a bistro feel.

Living Room

The living room is probably the room that you use the most. You need to combine comfort with functionality to create a living room that is homely but not loaded with clutter. The living room is a space where you want to be able to relax, spend time with the family, or entertain. The decor you choose for this room needs to work for all these different functions.

This means you need to work with the design and layout to make sure the room works as what you need it to be. Small choices like where you place your lighting or what furniture you buy can change the look of the room completely. Spend some time plotting out your design in order to use the space best. Once you’ve decided that, and got your furniture placed, you can start to add the finishing touches. Details like an indoor plant, coffee table display, candles, scent, and comfortable cushions and throws all add character to a room.

Bathroom

Don’t forget the bathroom when you’re decorating. Your choice of flooring should be practical but also beautiful, so you can create a room that is functional but still luxurious. When it comes to bathroom fittings, think keep and elegant. Buy the best quality that you can afford, then upgrade where you can with some great bathroom accessories. Add storage so you can banish clutter like toiletries, and add some pretty pieces like plants or candles.

Bedroom

The bedroom needs balance style and peace. That’s really all you need for a beautiful bedroom, whatever your style is. Keep your colour choices calm, whether in a pattern or in a block colour to make your bedroom a relaxing place to sleep in.

The bed is always going to be the main focus in a bedroom, as it is the largest item in any bedroom. Because of this, you ought to make the most of it in your decor. A lot of people really love the idea of creating a hotel feeling at home. Start with an online guide about bed buying, so you can choose the best option. Think carefully about your mattress choice, so you get something that supports you and is comfortable to sleep on. Your bed frame should also offer style and extreme comfort in one.

If you’re going to choose one area to splash out on, it’s always worth spending a little bit of extra money on a higher thread count for your duvet covers and your bedding. Once you have experienced the difference, you’ll never be able to go back. Add soft, comforting textures to the room for a welcoming, luxe look, with a beautiful throw over the end of the bed, and a scattering of pretty cushions at the top. Throws and cushions are a great way to dress your bed, especially if you want the hotel look. For a really calming, classy look, choose white bedding, and add in touches of colour with your accessories and bedside tables.

If you have a small bedroom with not much space, or if you just have a lot of clothes and other things that you need to store away, organizing your bedroom can be key to keeping it looking good. A cluttered bedroom isn’t going to feel relaxing or calm, so get your storage right. If your bedroom is going to look its very best, then you need to work with the best storage solutions. A cluttered bedroom won’t let your carefully chosen decor really shine, and it definitely doesn’t bode well for getting a good night’s sleep.

Add storage without adding more stuff by choosing furniture with concealed storage. For example, a bed frame with drawers built in is a good place for keeping out of seasons clothes, spare bedding, and blankets out of the way. An ottoman at the end of the bed looks nice, gives you somewhere to sit when you’re getting ready, and adds another storage option for shoes, pyjamas, or anything else.

You can easily make your home more beautiful and more personal with a few touches of decor, like pictures, plants, candles, and soft furnishings. Spend your budget wisely on items that will have the most impact. You don’t have to copy the interior magazines to have a beautiful home, and in fact, probably shouldn’t. The best way to have a home that you love, and feel proud of, that you will enjoy spending time in, is to make choices with your decor that suit your lifestyle and say something about you, your personality, or your family.
