Vancouver, BC - September 3, 2025 - Canadian refugee lawyer and philanthropist Katrina Sriranpong has announced the launch of the Katrina Sriranpong Bursary, a new financial award designed to empower students across Canada who demonstrate both financial need and a strong commitment to human rights.
Recognizing the significant financial challenges that many students face, particularly those pursuing careers in law and advocacy, Sriranpong established the bursary in 2025 to help alleviate the burden of tuition and educational expenses. The $1,000 award is open to students from all majors at Canadian post-secondary institutions, reflecting her belief that human rights advocacy spans every discipline.
“When I graduated from grade 12, I was awarded with multiple bursaries totaling approximately $5,000,” said Sriranpong. “This changed my life and allowed me to attend the University of British Columbia. My parents had three jobs each, and while they were extremely hardworking, the cost of university was a significant stress for our family. I am now in a position to give back and help young students in similar situations. I hope that when these recipients are established in their careers, they will pass on the kindness to another student.”
A Lifelong Commitment to Advocacy
Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, with family roots in Thailand, Katrina Sriranpong has built a career dedicated to defending the rights of refugees and marginalized communities. Her philanthropic work spans both Canada and international causes, with a focus on combating human trafficking, particularly the exploitation of children, supporting refugees displaced by conflict, and advancing animal rights protections.
She believes that philanthropy is accessible to everyone, whether through financial support, volunteer work, skill-sharing, or advocacy. By funding this bursary, Sriranpong hopes to inspire a new generation of socially conscious leaders who will continue the fight for justice and equality.

- A 500–1,000-word essay outlining financial need, past human rights advocacy, challenges faced, accomplishments, and future aspirations
- Admission decision letter (when available) for the 2026–27 school year
