Arizona’s Nonprofit Sector Is the State’s 6th-Largest Industry - Many Still Face Outdated Finance System Constraints

Tigunia, a Phoenix-based Microsoft Solutions Partner, launched Tigunia Spark, a turnkey fund accounting solution built on Dynamics 365 Business Central for small and mid-sized nonprofits. Arizona's nonprofit sector is the state's 6th-largest industry, yet most organizations rely on outdated financial tools. Tigunia Spark offers automated fund accounting, approval workflows, and nonprofit reporting in a pre-configured package that deploys in weeks at up to 60% below commercial pricing.

PHOENIX, AZ - April 8, 2026 - Arizona's nonprofit sector is the state's sixth-largest industry by economic impact, according to ASU's Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation. According to a 2024 ASU Lodestar Center analysis, Arizona's 28,379 nonprofit organizations collectively reported $58.2 billion in income and employed 222,380 workers. Many of these organizations have far fewer resources, making affordability, usability, and ease of implementation key considerations when selecting financial systems.

Tigunia, a Phoenix-based Microsoft Solutions Partner, is addressing that challenge with the launch of Tigunia Spark, a turnkey nonprofit finance solution built on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Designed specifically for small and mid-sized nonprofits, it delivers automated fund accounting, line-level approval workflows, and nonprofit reporting in a pre-configured package that can go live in weeks rather than the months it takes traditional ERP solutions.

“Arizona has nearly 30,000 nonprofits, and most of them are managing their finances on tools that were never built for fund accounting. We built Tigunia Spark to give those organizations the same capabilities that larger nonprofits have had for years, without the cost or complexity that usually comes with it,” said Christopher Brock, Director of Sales at Tigunia.

A Growing Sector with Different Operational Realities

Arizona's nonprofit sector is a major part of the state economy. According to Arizona State University's Lodestar Center, it surpasses construction, transportation and warehousing, and accommodation and food services in annual wages, with nonprofit employees accounting for 7.3 percent of all wages paid statewide.

According to the Lodestar Center's Scope platform, the sector has also grown steadily, with the number of registered nonprofit organizations in Arizona increasing 76 percent between 2002 and 2023, from 16,786 to 29,622. Even so, most operate at a much smaller scale, with 76.7 percent reporting annual expenses of less than $500,000.

Despite that growth, budget constraints continue to influence how nonprofits invest in financial technology. Market Growth Reports found that 57 percent of nonprofits globally face budget limitations that can delay or restrict adoption of advanced accounting systems. The same research found that cloud-based platforms now account for 67 percent of total deployments, while small and mid-sized organizations make up 52 percent of market demand.

Enterprise Technology at Nonprofit Pricing

Part of what makes Tigunia Spark accessible to smaller organizations is the underlying economics of Microsoft's nonprofit program. According to Microsoft, eligible nonprofits can access Dynamics 365 Business Central at 60 percent below commercial pricing. Tigunia Spark builds on that discounted platform with a pre-configured nonprofit framework that helps reduce the custom development often associated with adapting Business Central for fund accounting. That can lower total cost of ownership for organizations without dedicated IT staff or large implementation budgets.

For small and mid-sized nonprofits — particularly those still relying on entry-level or general-purpose financial tools — Microsoft’s discounted licensing and Tigunia Spark’s rapid-deployment model can make a more capable system attainable.

What Tigunia Spark Delivers

Tigunia Spark is designed specifically for small and mid-sized nonprofits that need to manage multiple funds, programs, and reporting requirements without a dedicated IT team. Key capabilities include:

  • Automated fund accounting with “due to/due from” transaction tracking and fund-level reporting
  • Line-level approval workflows configurable by department, program, or spending threshold
  • Nonprofit reporting that supports board, fund, and management visibility
  • Budgeting by fund with real-time tracking and built-in controls
  • Pre-configured nonprofit framework on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, designed to help organizations go live in weeks, not months

“A lot of nonprofits are stuck between systems that are too basic and systems that are too expensive to implement. Tigunia Spark sits right in that middle ground. It gives smaller organizations real fund accounting without the overhead,” said Ron Summers, President at Tigunia.

A Market in Transition

The launch aligns with a broader industry shift toward cloud-based nonprofit financial management. According to a 2026 market analysis by Market Growth Reports, the global nonprofit accounting software market is projected to grow from $373.75 million in 2026 to $908.75 million by 2035 — a compound annual growth rate of 10.5 percent.

Tigunia Spark is available now for nonprofit organizations in the Phoenix metropolitan area and throughout Arizona. For more information or to schedule a demo, visit https://tigunia.com/nonprofit-software/.
