About Mr. Langford
Mr. Langford specializes in telecommunications, computer networking and information technology. Earning a bachelor's degree in communication systems management from Ohio University in 1992, he began his career in leadership roles at the National Science Foundation's Advanced Network and Services project. Here, he helped establish the first national high-speed IP infrastructure, existing before the internet as we know it today, and later contributed to the development of the sales engineering division at AOL. Additionally, he was one of the first to install temporary data networks for Fortune 500 company events, often in locations without existing infrastructure. He also created and implemented the country's first permanent wireless installation for conventions.
Since joining Smart City Networks in 2000, Mr. Langford served as vice president of technology, with responsibilities that included overseeing various projects, performing network upgrades and managing new network installations. He has also played an important role in enhancing existing facility networks for specific events and serving as the leader of various technology teams. Currently, he continues to enhance his expertise through membership in the International Association of Exhibitions and Events and the International Association of Venue Managers.
A significant portion of Mr. Langford's career has involved installing distributed antenna systems that have helped improve cellphone coverage in buildings in Charlotte, Phoenix and San Diego. He is proud of his work on network enhancement projects, particularly those involving Wi-Fi for large events. He was a core team member who supported the wireless network for Comic-Con in San Diego, which had 150,000 attendees. More recently, at Smart City Networks, he has been developing high-density wireless networks for stadiums and convention centers, as well as establishing a neutral host distributed antenna system (NHDAS) practice.
Embracing New Technology
With the rapidly changing telecommunications industry landscape, Mr. Langford has found himself discussing the arrival of Wi-Fi 6E and the new standards that promise to enhance location-based services. He believes these newer technologies will offer more accurate indoor location tracking, which may change how events and exhibits, and even corporate officers and retailers, operate by enabling targeted information delivery to attendees.
Reflecting on his career, Mr. Langford attributes his success to his determination to see every project through to completion. He also believes that his varied skills, which include building networks, IT and computer programming, have given him a significant advantage in his field. He has provided services for several events for the White House, including the G20 Summit, the Nuclear Security Summit hosted by President Barack Obama and the G7 Summit.
In the future, Mr. Langford plans to continue improving networking at public facilities and companies, as well as supporting his organization's IT operations. Outside of these pursuits, he enjoys camping, hiking and fostering dogs with his family.
