UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / April 6, 2026 / Marquis Who's Who honors Eric J. Brumskill for excellence in aviation. For the past 37 years, his accomplishments have spanned both military operations and commercial flight services. Most recently, Mr. Brumskill has served as a Boeing 737 First Officer with American Airlines at Miami International Airport since 2025. In this role, he upholds rigorous safety and passenger service standards while contributing to complex domestic and international operations.

Service Across Major Military Campaigns
Mr. Brumskill describes his 25 years in the U.S. Air Force, from 1989 to 2014, as the "highlight of his career." Retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 2014, he served in a variety of positions, from copilot to commander. His primary role was as a worldwide air refueling specialist flying the various models of the KC-135. He served in numerous operations, including Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Northern Watch and Southern Watch. He also served on missions over Bosnia and Kosovo and in continued operations after September 11, 2001, including Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Additionally, Mr. Brumskill served in various staffing roles throughout his career, including tours in Europe, Southwest Asia and the Pacific. His varied positions included stints as commander, headquarters division chief, wing chief of safety, chief of evaluations and inspections, and European liaison officer, among others.
From 1997 to 2002, Mr. Brumskill held roles as a C-9 evaluator, instructor and aircraft commander in Germany. In this position, he transported distinguished visitors throughout Europe, the Former Soviet Union, Africa and Asia, carrying such luminaries as former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, former Senators John McCain and Joe Lieberman, as well as U.S. and NATO senior defense officials.
Commitment to Professional Flight Standards
After retiring from the military in 2014 from Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii, Mr. Brumskill planned to pursue a career as a teacher and coach, but aviation kept its grip on him. Beginning in late 2014, he became a civilian flight instructor in Apple Valley, California, with Midfield Aviation. In that role, he mentored aspiring pilots in technical proficiency and professional discipline.
Mr. Brumskill returned to Hawaii in the summer of 2015, where he began flying for Aloha Air Cargo, transporting cargo throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Mr. Brumskill initially served as a Boeing 737 first officer, then as a captain before becoming an instructor and evaluator for the Hawaiian airline. In his capacity as a check airman, he upheld FAA and company standards, trained new hires and conducted line evaluations.
In 2018, Mr. Brumskill's vast experience as both a military and general aviation pilot landed him a role as a stunt pilot in the Netflix original movie "Triple Frontier," starring such notable actors as Ben Affleck, Pedro Pascal and Oscar Isaac.
In 2020, Mr. Brumskill transferred to Miami to fly for the organization's sister company, Northern Air Cargo. From captain on the Boeing 767, flying internationally throughout the Caribbean, South America and Central America, he once again rose to the level of check airman, teaching and evaluating in both the airplane and the simulator.
Automation and AI in the Aviation Industry
Reflecting on changes in aviation, Mr. Brumskill notes the rapid development of automation and artificial intelligence in flight systems and air traffic operations. "Nothing in the world can replace a human," he says. While automation and AI simulations play an important role, he emphasizes that human judgment is needed in unpredictable circumstances, such as severe weather or system failures.
"Humans design the AI, humans design the automation," Mr. Brumskill says. This reality reinforces his belief that technology complements, rather than replaces, trained professionals. His perspective is informed by decades of operational experience in high-stakes environments.
Advanced Education and Civic Affiliations
Mr. Brumskill earned a bachelor's degree in American studies from Rutgers University in 1988, where he played Division I baseball and football. He later obtained a master's degree in adult education from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2002. He holds Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications as an airline transport pilot and flight instructor, along with a restricted radiotelephone operator permit from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Active in professional and civic organizations, Mr. Brumskill is affiliated with the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals, the Tuskegee Airmen and the Airlift Tanker Association. He also supports the Wounded Warrior Project and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Faith, Family and Honor
Mr. Brumskill shares direct advice for young people considering military service or aviation careers. "It's not a job, it's a profession," he says. "It's a profession of arms." He encourages discipline and commitment, noting that such service can provide direction and long-term stability.
Attributing his success to God's grace, mercy and blessings, Mr. Brumskill also credits the guidance of his parents. In the next five years, he plans to retire at age 65 and spend time with his children and grandchildren. "My family is the most important thing to me. And once they're taken care of, I can continue to reach out further," he says. With that in mind, he intends to give back to his community as a volunteer high school football coach or substitute high school teacher.
