New facility continues Amazon’s investments in New York, creating 1,500 new, full-time jobs
Amazon, along with state and local elected officials and community partners, celebrated the official opening of its new, state-of-the-art fulfillment center in Clay, New York. Approximately 1,500 local Amazon employees will operate and work with innovative robotics technology at this fulfillment center – the first of its kind in Central New York. This new facility expands Amazon’s robust operations and logistics network in the state, where there are more than 39,000 full and part-time employees across New York communities.
“This is a great day for Onondaga County and an important symbol of the progress we can make as a community when we work together. Just as important are the 1,500 people who now have jobs and a career path. We know the best way out of poverty is with a good job and Amazon is providing that opportunity for so many of our community members,” said Onondaga County Executive J. Ryan McMahon, II. “Amazon has also already proven to be a true community partner with their various sponsorships and investments including the STEAM school, and I thank them for their commitment to Onondaga County and Central New York.”
“I am very excited to see this tremendous investment in Central New York coming to fruition,” said U.S. Representative John Katko. “The new Fulfillment Center will be revolutionary for our region, creating over 1,500 jobs and making significant contributions to the local economy. I am proud to welcome Amazon to our community and look forward to seeing the positive impact this new Fulfillment Center will have for years to come.”
Amazon employees were welcomed inside the new 3.7 million square-foot robotic fulfillment center to begin processing and delivering customer orders starting on May 11, 2022. At this facility employees pick, pack and ship smaller customer items such as books, electronics, small household goods and toys.
“It is a privilege to be leading this team as we open our state-of-the-art fulfillment center in Liverpool-Clay,” said Irfaan Hafeez, site leader at the new facility. “In addition to delivering for our customers every day, the team here is already giving back by supporting great projects and organizations in Central New York. But giving back entails more than community service. It also includes offering good local jobs and a safe, engaging, and fun workplace that allows employees to flourish.”
An Amazon presence in New York means more than just the great jobs with full benefits provided within the four walls of this new facility. The company has also brought thousands of jobs in construction and services. Since 2010, Amazon has invested over $14 billion in New York including infrastructure and compensation to its employees.
“With Amazon expanding its global footprint, it is truly a new day in Clay as they bring their newest technology to us, housed in a state-of-the-art warehouse that will help move product more efficiently in the northeast,” said Town of Clay Supervisor Damian Ulatowski. “In locating to Clay, Amazon brings with its expansion a new employment base that will invigorate the Central New York economy. We are excited about hosting this new venture as it can do a great deal more for the Town of Clay as spin-off business will locate in Clay. This once in a lifetime moment will not only create new jobs, but also breathe new life into an emerging Syracuse market place.”
“To keep the Central New York economy moving forward we need innovation and lots of good paying jobs with upward mobility – two areas where Amazon excels. I’m thrilled that Amazon’s presence in Clay means 1,500 jobs for my neighbors and constituents. I look forward to working with Amazon as it grows its Central New York-based philanthropy and volunteerism,” said New York State Senator John W. Mannion.
Amazon is a great place to work with highly competitive pay, benefits that begin on the first day of employment, and training programs for in-demand jobs. On top of Amazon’s national average starting wage of over $18 per hour, the company offers full-time employees industry-leading benefits from day one of employment, including full health, vision and dental insurance, 401(k) with 50 percent company match and up to 20 weeks paid parental leave.
"The Amazon Robotics Fulfillment Center is a boon for our local economy and will help fuel our region's recovery and revival. The facility is expected to create over 1,500 jobs for local residents, help customers access goods more quickly and boost the Central New York economy. I look forward to working with our new community partner to support local workers and help us all build back stronger from the challenges of the past two and half years,” said New York State Assemblyman Albert A. Stirpe Jr.
Amazon also provides access to its innovative Career Choice program which offers fully-funded college tuition, allows employees to participate every year they work at Amazon, and gives them eligibility after only 90 days of employment. Through Career Choice, employees can pursue a Bachelor’s degree, earn industry certifications leading to in-demand jobs, and build skills through English language proficiency, and high school completion programs.
Positions are still available at the new fulfillment center. Jobs are available on a rolling basis and fill up quickly. Interested candidates are encouraged to sign up for alerts by visiting amazon.jobs to learn more and apply online.
