American Water Charitable Foundation Now Accepting Applications for 2023 Water and Environment Grant Program

The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company, announced today that it launched the 2023 Water and Environment Grant Program, supporting clean water, conservation, environmental education, climate variability and water-based recreation projects.

“The American Water Charitable Foundation is proud to again launch the Water and Environment Grant Program, supporting impactful initiatives and programs throughout American Water’s national footprint,” said Carrie Williams, President of the American Water Charitable Foundation. “Our charitable focus to Keep Communities Flowing empowers communities to learn how every drop counts, while furthering our commitment to ESG, as well as inclusion, diversity and equity.”

The Foundation supports three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities. Within these pillars, grant opportunities will be available to eligible non-profit organizations throughout the year. Each grant cycle will be open for approximately 90 days. The Water and Environment Grant Program will remain open through June 30, 2023. A Workforce Readiness and STEM Education grant will launch in July 2023.

The American Water Charitable Foundation awarded over $1 million in Water and Environment grants to organizations located in communities served by American Water across its national footprint in 2022, including Coalfield Development in Huntington, West Virginia.

“Thanks to the generosity of the American Water Charitable Foundation and the Water and Environment Grant Program, Coalfield Development is developing a Rainwater Catchment and Rain Garden System here at West Edge,” said Jacob Israel Hannah, Chief Conservation Officer, Coalfield Development. “As our project progresses, we are thrilled about this vital community project and strive to fulfill our mission and vision of helping our neighbors and our planet. It has already generated other organizations’ interest in developing similar projects as well!”

Since 2012, the American Water Charitable Foundation has invested $12 million in funding through grants and matching gifts that are important to American Water’s employees and positively impacting the communities where they live and work.
