With the New School Year About to Begin, 75% of High School Students Feel Unprepared to Make College or Next Step Decisions. It’s Time to Change That.

(Stride/LRN) – With school starting this month in many places, most families are ill-prepared to help their students take those next steps towards college or careers.

According to a recent poll by You Science, “most high school graduates (75%) do not feel prepared to make college or career decisions after graduation.”

K12’s new College Prep Center aims to combat this lack of readiness head-on by empowering students with a wide range of online tools and guidance in key areas including college selection, SAT/ACT preparation, applying to scholarships, understanding admissions, financial aid, and more. K12-powered high school students and families can watch videos, register for free college events, and learn how to prepare for college no matter where they are in their process.

Students at K12-powered schools can also engage with Student Success Coaches who are nationally certified to provide expert insights and advice on college and career prep topics through live events, programs through their schools, and in one-on-one sessions, a key differentiator in Stride’s offering for their career and college online schools.

“Getting through high school is hard enough without worrying so much about your next steps. The College Prep Center is a critical resource with information high school students need to help prepare for life after graduation,” said Tyng Kam, K12’s Student Success Coaching Manager. “The new Center helps students understand the process and stay on track towards their overall goals, no matter what they choose to accomplish.”

Students will have opportunities to explore career fields, earn certifications, and take career pathway classes. In addition to the Career Prep Center, K12’s career and college prep program also offers these benefits:

  1. College Fairs and Dual Credit/Enrollment Opportunities: Your student can access a wide range of virtual fairs, as well as opportunities to earn college credits while still in high school, ultimately saving them time and money.

  2. Scholarships: Discover scholarship opportunities to help relieve the financial burden of college through Tallo, the leader in connecting K-12 students with colleges, scholarships, and career opportunities.

  3. Monthly Career and College Readiness Webinars: Learn about career paths, industry trends, and success strategies from industry experts with our monthly webinars, including our latest on college degrees, career paths, and financial aid. These free events can enhance your student's employability skills with topics like resume building, interview techniques, and professional networking.

  4. Student Advisory Council: Your student can make their mark by joining an elite group of K12-powered students who are paid interns, gaining real-world experience in marketing, business, social media, research, and more through work-based learning and other opportunities.
