Olístico, the Peruvian creative business unit of New York-based marketing and advertising agency Atypical Digital — has won gold at the first edition of the Luum Awards, hosted at the Hilton Geneva Hotel and Conference Center in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Luum Awards is the world’s first socially conscious advertising festival. Communications agency leaders from around the world participate by submitting creative and strategic ad campaigns that promote social, civic, or environmental awareness to make the world a better place. It is worth mentioning that the Luum Awards exclusively awards golds — there are no silvers or bronzes. In other words, only the finest of the finest campaign submissions are awarded gold at the festival.
This year, the Luum Awards received a total of 752 submissions by 185 communication agencies from 46 countries, including Andorra, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Germany, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Lebanon, Lithuania, Mexico, Morocco, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United States, Venezuela, and Zambia. The multidisciplinary panel of judges at the festival included leaders and public relations managers of nonprofits, as well as managers and directors of multinational and independent ad agencies.
Olístico was presented with the gold award in the “Design for a better world” category for its “Literary Optotypes” campaign. The campaign garnered a lot of praise from the judges for its innovative solution, which opens up a whole new world of possibilities for encouraging reading through eye exams.
Because four out of every five Peruvians have bad eyesight, they read less than one book a year. Olístico’s ad campaign underlined this flaw while also offering a solution — replacing optotype letters with literary phrases and providing every person with a book following an eye test to encourage their reading habit. Olístico created this campaign for their client GMO, a subsidiary of Luxottica in South America with optical stores throughout Peru, Chile, Colombia, and Ecuador. The success of Literary Optotypes illustrates why meaningful media is the way of the future.
Speaking on the award, the President and General Creative Director of Olístico, Miguel Ormeno, said, “We are honored to be part of the project team that created and executed so well together on impactful campaigns that are about improving people’s lives and our planet in a meaningful way.”
