West Coast-based artist and insomniac David Fenton announced the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to fund what he calls, “an immersive, narrative-driven art experience” consisting of an online gallery and eCommerce platform where a collective of conscious creatives will showcase and sell their work, and eventually, physical pop-up locations. Ten percent of all sales will go directly to nonprofits fighting climate change.
A longtime dream of Fenton’s, his project –– called Insomnius –– is named after the enigmatic character driving its vision and starring in a comic book series scheduled to debut along with the crowdfunding drive. Deeply troubled by climate change, Insomnius suffers from both perpetual exhaustion and a chronic compulsion to create. “His only respite from these two competing forces,” Fenton said, “comes in the form of an ongoing invitation to explore perception itself.”
“Our goal is to recruit fellow artists who share our passion and commitment,” said Fenton. “Ultimately, our galleries will offer work by a number of makers as our community of green justice creatives grows. With the help of our supporters on Kickstarter, we’ll have the resources we need to connect with kindred spirits.”
Fenton hopes his crowdfunding campaign will attract a wide range of backers. His one-stop shop will cater not only to eco-justice advocates, but also to emerging and mid-career artists whose work explores a number of climate crisis-inspired themes. The brand's barren, sci-fi landscapes and post-apocalyptic portraits, he says, “are just a few of many interpretations out there.”
INSOMNIUS, the comic, Limited-edition prints and t-shirts featuring dark, phantasmagoric imagery are now available for campaign contributors.
