West Point, NE Eye Care Ortho-K Lenses For Myopia | Vision Treatment Expanded

This expanded orthokeratology (Ortho-K) service offers nearsighted children and adults a way to improve their distance vision so that they may be able to eliminate the need to wear glasses or contact lenses.

More information is available at https://www.neeyecare.com

Individuals with myopia can now get fitted for special gas-permeable Ortho-K lenses to wear overnight. These lenses gently reshape the front surface of the cornea, reducing the patient’s myopia during the day. The treatment is a suitable alternative for patients who are not good candidates for LASIK, or are too young for the procedure.

According to a study published in Arch Ophthalmol, about 41.6% of Americans are nearsighted, up from 25% in 1971. Recent studies also suggest the increase in myopia may be caused by environmental factors. In particular, a link between near work and myopia in children may be the result of increased virtual learning that was a consequence of the recent pandemic.

As such, Northeast Eye Care’s updated orthokeratology treatment is designed to slow down the progression of nearsightedness in individuals under the age of 25. Reducing nearsightedness at an early stage can prevent more serious conditions, like glaucoma, from developing in the future.

In addition to Ortho-K, Northeast Eye Care provides comprehensive eye exams to determine an individual’s prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses. A selection of popular eyeglass frame styles is available. In addition to single vision, lenses are available as lined bifocal or trifocal and progressive, fabricated in plastic, polycarbonate, or high index.

The clinic also provides treatment for dry eye, cataracts, glaucoma, and more. Urgent eye care appointments can be scheduled, including treatment for pink eye, conjunctivitis, chemical exposure, blunt trauma, and more.
