Taipei Welcomes 20,000 Athletes to the 2025 World Masters Games

Taipei, Taiwan - (NewMediaWire) - October 09, 2023 - The world’s largest multi-sport participatory event - the World Masters Games, founded in 1985 in Toronto, will mark its historic debut in Asia in 2025, as it lands in Taipei and New Taipei City, Taiwan. The recent World Masters Games occurred in 2017 but was suspended for 8 years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the 14-day games, over 20,000 international athletes are expected to gather and compete in 35 different sports. Registration opens in February 2024, the World Masters Games welcomes athletes aged over 30 years old across different nationalities to compete in the Games and to experience Taipei, a vibrant city with a captivating history and a strong capacity for fostering creativity.

According to the 2022 International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) ranking, Taipei City ranks 3rd amongst 62 cities in the Asia Pacific region and ranks 25th among cities globally. Moreover, The New York Times named Taipei one of the world’s 52 best places to visit in 2023. Taipei is renowned for its convenience, friendliness, and diversity. Every October, 100,000 people participate in the Pride March to celebrate LGBTQ+ equality in Taipei. Besides, Taipei City won the 2023 Crescent Rating "Most Promising Muslim-Friendly City Destination of the Year (Non-Organization of Islamic Cooperation)”. Taipei also ranks 4th in the World’s Safest Cities rankings on RankingRoyals, a well-known statistics website for 2023. Time Out, a British culture magazine, identified Taipei’s public transportation system as one of the best in the world.

“Taipei is home to some of the most diverse and iconic events all year round, including the Taipei Marathon, Taipei Lantern Festival, Taipei New Year’s Party, Taipei Floral Festival, Taipei Summer Festival, Guandu International Nature Art Festival, COMPUTEX, and the Taipei Cycle. We warmly welcome event organizers to discover Taipei City and hold your event in Taipei - a smart, stylish, dynamic, convenient, and safe international city,” said the Department of Information and Tourism, Taipei City Government from Taiwan.

The selection of Taipei City to host the World Master Games is a testament to the city's excellent event infrastructure. Over 40,000 accommodation rooms are available across the city and organizers are spoiled for choice with a vast selection of meetings and event venues. In addition to traditional venues like the Taipei International Convention Center, Taipei World Trade Center, and Nangang Exhibition Hall, Taipei City also houses a selection of unconventional venues that showcase unique cultural elements of its history and heritage. For example, the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, which was formally Taiwan's first modern tobacco factory has been transformed into a creative and innovation cluster, with meeting spaces suitable for hundreds of people. In recent years, the Taipei Performing Arts Center and Taipei Pop Music Center have become Taipei’s arts and cultural hub. The Taipei Performing Arts Center was selected by Time Magazine as one of the world's top 100 attractions in 2021.
