DETROIT, MICHIGAN - December 17, 2025 (NEWMEDIAWIRE) - Richard MacPherson, founder, President and CEO of Birchtech Corp. (OTC: BCHT) was recently a guest on Benzinga All Access.
Birchtech is the parent company of ME2C, which is focused on clean air technologies and WE2C, which is dedicated to water purification. Birchtech has been on the air purification side of clean tech for the last fourteen years, and after adding more talent to its team, the company moved into water purification about three years ago.
“We were working under the radar for the past two to three years, and we are now coming up with commercially viable developments that we made across the board in a number of different areas in clean water purification,” MacPherson told Benzinga during the interview.
The company’s focus on water purification is getting a boost thanks to a patent lawsuit Birchtech settled in 2024. Birchtech was awarded $57 million, but MacPherson said that since then, the court has issued two solid opinions in the company’s favor. Those rulings have dismissed any claims of the defendants to get out of the verdict and “significantly” reinforced willful infringement, said the CEO.
As a result, MacPherson said the company has asked the court for a final judgment of $160 million instead of $57 million, taking into account the willfulness of the patent infringement, the legal fees and the interest from the date of filing of the lawsuit. “We’re looking forward to getting that judgment in the coming weeks,” said MacPherson. “It will be a real pivot point for the company.”
