What to Take to Disney World

What to bring to Disney World? This is one of our most common vacation questions for guests planning their visit to any of the Disney Parks. Here are our musts for our Disney packing list.

1. Backpack/Comfortable Park Bag

Make sure that you bring a backpack or purse that is comfortable for you to wear for hours at a time. I always advise guests against packing too much into a giant backpack in the parks though, you want to make sure that you’re not loaded down with a huge bag on your trip to Disney. My favorite purse that I pack for Disney is one that switches between a crossbody and a handbag style which gives my back a break throughout my Disney trip. If you need to travel with a diaper bag, consider what bag will work best to carry your kid’s supplies and your own.

2. Water Bottle

Whether you order groceries and include bottled water or bring your own, this is a top item on our packing tips list. You can get dehydrated fast walking in the hot weather and you want to stay as hydrated as possible.

3. Phone and/or Camera

Most people these days have high end cell phones that take great pictures but some guests like to bring their professional camera as well. But just remember- you will have to carry it all day!

4. Battery Pack

You’ll be surprised at how much you’ll need a battery charger on your trip and having one on hand will be a lifesaver. You will often be using the Disney World app along with taking pictures that bringing one of these is a must.

5. Ponchos

One thing you can count on is to experience rain on your Disney vacation and your family will thank you if you arrive prepared with ponchos. You can find packages of disposable ones on Amazon that come folded up nicely in small packages or buy durable ones to rewear throughout the trip.

6. Umbrellas

Not only are umbrellas handy for the heavy rains that can come and go on your Disney World vacation but they’re also great for shielding yourself from the hot sun. Plan to bring a small umbrella that fits inside your purse or backpack.

7. Ziploc Bags

I always add a variety of Ziploc bags to our packing list because they’re so handy for leftover food, keeping your essentials dry on water rides, and separating things in your backpack.

8. Sunscreen

You can always find these essential packing list items in your hotel gift shop but you will save money if you arrive prepared with sunscreen. Especially if you’re traveling with kids, this is an essential packing list item.

9. Aloe Vera

Hopefully you can avoid any sunburns but if you’re not so lucky, having this on hand will relieve any of your discomfort.

10. Lanyards

Lanyards are a great way to display Disney Park pins so if you’re a pin collector this is a must for your Disney World packing list. They can also work as a nice neck wallet to store your gift cards or credit cards in.

11. Hand Sanitizer

Disney will have plenty of hand sanitizer stations throughout the park but having your own means you always have some on hand so add this to your packing list.

12. Aquaphor Ointment

Aquaphor is a great way to keep your hands from drying out from using so much sanitizer so this is another small item to add to your packing list.

13. Gold Bond Powder

Even if you don’t have problems with your legs chafing, you might experience it on your Disney World trip from all the walking. Add this item to your Disney World packing list so you’re prepared.

14. Packages of Kleenex/Wet Wipes

Pick up some travel sized packages of Kleenex for your park bag as the toliet paper in the bathrooms are pretty scratchy in the park. I also carry a travel sized package of Wet Wipes to wipe down sticky kids hands and tables before we eat.

Hollywood Studios

15. Chapstick

Most folks might have this ready to go in their bags anyways but if you don’t, I recommend adding it to your packing list.

16. First Aid Kit

If you have a small First Aid kit on hand, bring it with so you’re prepared with bandaids for any blisters that might be created from all the walking in the parks.

17. Pain Reliever

Pack the pain reliever of your choice so you always have this on hand if you get a headache or other aches during your trip to the Disney parks.

18. Tums or Pepto Bismol

You’ll be eating out quite a bit during your trip so having some of this on hand for any stomach upset, especially if you have kids, is a wise move.

19. Ear Plugs

Ear plugs are always a must for my Disney World packing list so that way I don’t get woken up by others I’m sharing a hotel room with or noise at my hotel.

20. Power Strip

Consider adding a power strip to your Disney World packing list so there are plenty of outlets for everyone to charge their devices.

21. Autograph Book and Sharpie

You can also buy an autograph book in the parks for a reasonable price but any small notebook will do for character autographs. I like to bring a clickable Sharpie so it’s easier for the characters to use when they sign.

22. Glow Sticks

If you have kids, this is a great way to avoid the begging for high dollar glow in the dark toys you will see for sale during nighttime shows at the parks. Have some glow sticks on hand to give out instead.

23. Pennies and Quarters

If you want to collect the pressed pennies during your trip then add these to your Disney World packing list. Be sure to get shiny pennies!

24. Stroller

If your kids need a stroller during the day you might want to bring your own or you can also rent one from a third party. You might find your kids relying on a stroller more than they usually do in the parks because of all the walking they will do.

25. Travel Documents/Cash

Plan to pack any essential documents you need to travel with (insurance cards, ID, etc.) and consider bringing some cash along with you too. There will be ATMs in Disney World but the fees will be more than it would cost to just run to the bank before the trip.

26. Disney Pins for Pin Trading

If you plan on trading pins, you can find larger quantities for less online before your trip.

27. Kid Necessities

Your kids might need their at home comforts to keep them happy on a trip. You don’t want to arrive at your hotel and realize you forgot the stuffed animal they cannot sleep without! Bring whatever they need to be comfortable at night or in the parks, especially if you have smaller kids.

28. Pocket Size Travel Blanket

Pocket size travel blankets can be found on Amazon for under $15 and they are awesome to have on hand for parades or nighttime shows. You can take them to the beach as well which make them a great item for your Disney packing list. I never go to the parks without mine!

29. Travel Size Shampoo/Bodywash

Depending on what hotel you’re at, you might not want to use the free shampoo/conditioner that is provided. I tend to be more picky on what shampoo I use so I always bring my own. You can also buy plastic smaller shampoo bottles at the Dollar Store and fill with your higher end shampoo at home.

30. Extra Room in Your Suitcase

While we encourage you to prepare yourself a Disney World packing list, you also want to leave some room in your suitcase for souvenirs! There’s a fine balance between being prepared in your Disney World packing and bringing too much. Do a test run at home with your suitcases and make sure you have extra room to spare. If you forget to pack something, it’s not the end of the world in most cases- you can usually find those items in the hotel gift shop.

What to Wear to Disney WorldWhat to Wear to Disney World

Planning what clothing items I need on a Disney trip is one of my favorite parts! I love coordinating outfits with my family and while it’s important to be comfortable, you also want to look nice since you’ll have these pictures to treasure forever.

There’s a fine balance between comfort and style in the parks so here’s some tips to help you decide what to pack in your carry on bag and for your family.

1.Comfortable Shoes

I always bring at least two pairs of walking shoes for our trips so I can alternate days to give my feet a rest. Don’t purchase new shoes without breaking them in, you want to be sure the shoes you wear work well for your feet during your trip. You will be doing a lot of walking! Throw in a pair of flip flops too for the resort pool. Make sure your entire family has comfortable shoes to bring, especially your kids.

2.Extra Layers

Florida weather can be chilly in the evening with the humidity depending on the season. It always helps to have an extra hoodie on hand or jackets for the kids, just in case. Having an extra change of clothes for colder weather can’t hurt if the weather suddenly changes on your trip.

3.A Nice Outfit

I always bring a nice outfit for each member of the family so we can dress up for one of our dining reservations. The only places in the parks though with a dress code are signature restaurants. Their dress code states, “The dress code for Signature Dining restaurants is Resort casual. Not permitted in dining room: tank tops, swimsuits or swimsuit cover-ups, hats for gentlemen, cutoffs, torn clothing of any kind or T-shirts with offensive language and/or graphics.”

Even if you don’t plan on dining in a signature dining restaurant, still add a nice outfit to your Disney World packing list for each family member.

4.Hat and Sunglasses

You will want to have a plan to keep the sun off of you in the parks. I always bring sunglasses that have strong UV protection while my son prefers hats. Again, go with your own level of comfort on this one. Sunglasses are a item I always pack for Disney World in advance because I’m picky about what style I wear. Everyone has their personal preferences on clothing, so keep that in mind on what is essential to bring with.

5.Bathing Suits

Don’t forget to bring your bathing suits for everyone in your family to enjoy the pool at your resort. Taking a break in the afternoons to cool off is an essential way to make your trip more relaxing for your family.

When it comes to style, it can be hard to sacrifice that for comfort when you’re planning what to pack for Disney World. But you don’t want to show up in heels either and find yourself having to buy a pair of shoes in the parks because your feet hurt! Here’s some tips on how to maintain your style in the parks with everything you should prepare for.

1. Spandex Biking Shorts

You can still wear a dress at Disney World! Just throw on a pair of bike shorts underneath it so when you climb off and on rides you don’t have to worry about any fashion emergencies.

2. Braid Your Hair

Instead of going to a ponytail in the hot afternoons, consider braiding your hair so when you take it down it’s wavy and not dented. You can always find scrunchies that don’t leave dents in your hair so that way you can alternate between having it up and down.

3. Splurge on the Good Hair Spray

If you’re like me with hair that goes flat in humidity, try Bumble Finish Spray. It’s a more expensive hair spray but it keeps my hair intact through a day at the parks.

4. Use Makeup Setting Spray

If you plan on doing your makeup, don’t forget to use some makeup setting spray. My favorite is Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. It’s a miracle product- it’s kept my makeup intact after a 12 hour park day including a trip on Splash Mountain. This item is a must for my packing tips list. I don’t leave without it in my carry on bag!

5. Get Disney Accessories

Don’t forget to grab yourself a cute pair of Minnie ears. You can find them in the parks or if you’re sensitive to hair bands (they always give me headaches) try looking on Etsy. You can find a huge variety with headbands that are more gentle on your head. Etsy also has a fun variety of trip shirts and tanks that are more fashion friendly for women- meaning they’re less bulky and more form fitting than the ones you get in the parks. I always like to tie a side knot in these and throw them on with cute shorts. Add my Minnie ears, and I’m good to go!

Grocery Delivery for Disney WorldDisney's All-Star Music Resort | Walt Disney World Resort

Ordering groceries to be delivered to your hotel is a popular choice for many folks visiting the parks. This will help you save on purchases made at your hotel store or in the parks for snack items and drinks. You can place your order before you arrive and have it arranged to be dropped off at Bell Services at the Disney World Resort hotels. They have a large fridge on hand to keep your perishables cold for you until you arrive. You can have groceries delivered through Garden Grocer, Amazon Prime Now, Walmart, Instacart, WeGoShop, Dizzy Dolphin Delivery, Shipt.com, and Gooding’s Supermarkets. Most places will require a minimum order amount and charge a delivery fee. Here are some must add items to add to your grocery list.

1. Prepackaged Snacks

I like to buy the boxes of prepackaged snacks so they’re easy to grab and throw in our park bag. Try to opt for more protein friendly options to give everyone energy but if you have picky kids, just grab the Goldfish crackers. Keeping your kids happy in line should be your first order of business over health if you value your sanity.

2. Breakfast Items

Your hotel will likely offer a breakfast option but if you’re like us, we prefer to arrive to the parks early to get on the rides before the crowds show up in the afternoons. Get some easy breakfast items for your hotel like cereal, granola bars, fruit, donuts- whatever your family’s preference is.

3. Case of Water

Add a package of water bottles to your grocery order so you have fresh water to drink in the hotel and in the parks. I like to get the mini bottles of water because they’re small enough to not weigh down my purse but some people prefer to bring their massive hydro flask so this might just be personal preference.

4. Bottles of Soda/Juice

Let’s face it- if you’re a soda addict, you will find yourself paying almost $5 per bottle of soda in the parks. Offset that crime to humanity and get yourself some soda to have on hand to bring with in the mornings. I cannot live without my Coca-Cola so I always get some for the hotel.

5. Powdered Starbucks Coffee

You can find awesome powdered Starbucks coffee to throw in your park bag to add to water in the parks or in your hotel room if you don’t like the coffee provided.

6. Coffee Creamer

I’m a coffee snob and I always struggle with hotel provided coffee. One thing I do to try and make it more bearable is to buy a flavored creamer to offset the taste.

7. Paper plates/bowls

These are handy to have in the hotel especially if you’re eating cereal in the morning or eating meals in the evenings. This is the kind of thing I always forget so I just add it to my grocery order.

8. Milk

If your kids drink milk or you want it for breakfast, add this item to your grocery list. Usually you can only find the small cafeteria style milk cartons in the Disney World resort hotels which don’t usually cut it.

9. Treats

I’m all about keeping my kid happy at Disney World and one way I do this is to have some treats in my park bag for crucial moments like when the line is too line or a favorite character is hard to find.

10. Hot Chocolate

You can get hot water from your coffee maker in the hotel which makes for a great way to enjoy hot chocolate in the evenings. This is a fun treat for kids to enjoy before bed and make the vacation feel special.

What Can You Bring into Disney WorldWalt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida

Most people are often surprised when they find out you can bring food into Disney World! It’s a common misconception that you can’t bring your own drinks or snacks. For a list of prohibited items, you can cruise the Disney World website to see what isn’t allowed.

So what should you bring into Disney World each day? Here’s a list of everything you should have in your park bag each day:

  • Magic Band (this will have your park tickets and FastPass+ reservations linked to it)
  • Park Tickets
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, and hat
  • Jacket and/or poncho
  • Trading pins
  • Wallet
  • Snacks
  • Water bottle
  • Phone charger and battery pack
  • Dry socks in case you need to switch after rain or a water ride
  • Extra makeup/hair ties
  • Pocket sized blanket to sit on for parades or nighttime shows
  • Autograph book/sharpie for character autographs
  • Pennies/quarters for penny machines
  • Ziploc bags for leftovers and to protect your phone/autograph book on water rides

You can also rent a locker if you don’t want to carry extra jackets or your park bag throughout the day which is a great option if you want to save your back.
