Omar Barnett of Prospective Research Innovations.

Prospective Research Innovations is a leading provider in clinical research trials, with a team of researchers, and 15 years of expertise and knowledge of study procedures and protocol compliance.

Over the years, this organisation has been finding solutions to illnesses that patients are currently suffering from, including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, asthma, ulcer colitis, hypertension and knee pain.

With doctors that are committed to patient safety and GCP compliance, they ensure study is conducted ethically and with the highest quality for all study patients. Prospective Research Innovations also conducts research with the utmost emphasis on patient safety and study compliance as they work to exceed current medicine for a better life for their patients.

Prospective Research Innovations is headed by Omar Barnett, a Jamaican, originally from Kingston, Jamaica. Prior to his relocation to the United States, Barnett always had an entrepreneurial spirit. He began saving his money to invest at a very young age and, unlike his peers, when he migrated, started to build his empire. Through determination and hard work, he is now the founder and chief executive officer of one of the fastest-growing medical research companies in the United States.

According to Barnett, he saw a phenomenal need for research clinics, with physicians and staff members who resemble the patients so they feel at ease while at the facility. “Our team is dedicated to patient safety and study compliance. With a multi-therapeutic patient database, our goal is to exceed expectation with each study we conduct,” he said.

“Our sponsors depend on us to conduct studies with patient enrolment, study timeline and patient safety of the utmost priority. We excel in each category, there is direct communication with our investigators and sponsors to provide study status and protocol compliance,” he added.

Barnett said it is important to conduct research in finding solutions as many existing medications have unexpected side effects that adversely affect the patient.

“Research is incredibly important for various reasons. With clinical studies we are able to pinpoint the reason for these side effects. We then communicate these findings to our sponsor so that they can make changes to the medications for patients internationally,” he said.

“Another reason clinical research is important is this is how new medications are put out into the market and eventually distributed for all to benefit,” he added.

According to Barnett, there is a dedicated team of doctors available seven days per week. Patients have access to the study team every day to report any adverse events or study-related questions.

“I would definitely say that one of the eye-opening findings is that many patients do not like to take their medication. That not only puts their life at risk but also others. With our trials we hope to be able to find a solution to this in the near future,” he said.

Existing medications need to be further researched and new medications need to be developed that won’t hinder the body in other ways. This can only be done by doing clinical research trials. The development of new medical treatments and cures would not happen without health research and the active role of research volunteers. Behind every discovery of a new medicine and treatment are thousands of people who were involved in health research.

According to Barnett, without research, many diseases that can now be treated would cripple people or result in early death. New drugs, new ways to treat old and new illnesses, and new ways to prevent diseases in people at risk of developing them can only result from health research.

Many things that we now take for granted are the result of medical studies that have been done in the past. For instance, blood pressure pills, vaccines to prevent infectious diseases, transplant surgery, and chemotherapy are all the result of research.

“Medical research often seems much like standard medical care, but it has a distinct goal. Medical care is the way that your doctors treat your illness or injury. Its only purpose is to make you feel better and you receive direct benefits,” Barnett said.

“On the other hand, medical research studies are done to learn about and to improve current treatments. We all benefit from the new knowledge that is gained in the form of new drugs, vaccines, medical devices such as pacemakers and surgeries,” he added.

The current Prospective Research Innovations facility is located in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Barnett said they plan to develop nine other facilities in California within the next five years and then they will expand to surrounding states before expanding globally.

Barnett is also desirous of opening a facility in Jamaica. By 2030, Kingston, he said, will be the location of their first international medical research clinic.
