Contemporary vs. Modern: A Concept for Creating a Timeless Home

Contemporary vs. Modern: A Concept for Creating a Timeless Home

The design of I House addresses a repetitive challenge in which clients cannot make their own decision in terms of style and are relying on magazine and media comments and articles. Because tropical modern is a style that has been popular in Miami and is spreading everywhere in Florida, the vast majority of our clients request modern style but do not understand the difference between modern, tropical modern, and contemporary houses.

Studio KHORA believes that tropical modern has been overused, making buildings look alike without creating something unique, one of a kind, a great timeless design. We also believe that this style may become dated therefore creating a problem with resale value.

To solve this problem, we have proposed a design that starts as modern and changes to contemporary as you approach the master bedroom. The master bedroom was designed to focus attention on the infinite northeast facing views to the water between the junction of the Intracoastal and a large canal.

To further enhance the concept of a transition from modern design from Sarasota architects to contemporary style, Studio KHORA created two building masses; one perforates the other and highlights the transition. The result is a cutting-edge minimalistic contemporary master bedroom in contrast to tropical modern style.

To embrace the Covid era’s need for office spaces, we added two office spaces, one on the first floor and another on the second floor. Each creates a productive work environment from where you can admire the Intracoastal views and experience a sense of calm and relaxation.

The I House was presold as a spec house at $17 million with a 50% Return On Investment, noted as the most expensive house per square foot recently sold in Boca Raton – 2633 Spanish River Road. In conclusion, while the market is demonstrating an acceptance for an architectural design that challenges the mainstream, more public education is needed for a design that can make a unique and compelling statement.
