El Paso, TX - Roxana Rassooly, a 17-year-old El Paso native, has raised $6000 for her local food bank and will be presenting the donations on Oct 29th, 2021 Friday.

Rassooly has always been active and involved in making her community a better place since childhood.

After learning what is “food insecurity” and how it affects adults and children, Rassooly decided to do a fundraiser for the “El Pasoans Fighting Hunger” food bank.

The USDA defines “food insecurity” as being limited at times to having adequate food because of a lack of money and other resources.

According to El Pasoans Fighting Hunger, some families are faced with the tough choices of having to pay for food or other necessities such as rent, utilities, medicine, or school tuition.

These household members often skip meals, eat less than they feel they should, or buy inexpensive food that has no nutritional value, in order to avoid being hungry.

Rassooly said, "It is a growing problem. Food demands at the local food pantries have increased, and yet food donations have decreased. Food banks need help all year round.”

“Another issue is how hungry children have more behavioral problems because they have less energy to learn in school.” said Rassooly.

This is the first fundraiser Rassooly has done for El Pasoans Fighting Hunger with $6000 raised.

The donation will be presented on October 29th, 2021.

“I would like to thank everyone who has helped me in this fundraising. It is going to help a lot of people who really need it!” Rassooly smiled.

The success of this fundraiser has also given her inspiration to plan many events in the future.
