In celebration of the new year, CynaMed is excited to offer guidance and resources for Med Tech training. Aspiring Medication Technicians can now access all of the training resources they will need through CynaMed.

A Med Tech’s role in a personal care facility involves assisting in the distribution of medication to patients or residents. Typically this duty involves pushing a cart and ensuring that the correct medication is administered to each patient. In addition to this, Med Techs also perform many of the other typical duties of a personal care aide in these facilities. Med Techs do not work in labs but work directly with the patients or residents of the care facility.

Med Techs play a crucial role in the day-to-day upkeep of many healthcare facilities. The state of Pennsylvania requires all Med Techs to pass an approved training course in order to work in personal care facilities. In most cases, this certification needs to be renewed every two years. Per the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, “State regulation § 2600.190(a) requires that in order for a non-medically licensed, certified, or registered staff person to administer certain medications, the staff person must complete a Department-approved medication administration training course within the past two years.”

Temple University Harrisburg is currently responsible for managing the Department-approved Med Tech training program. Online certification classes are available.
