Dr. Marcy Crouch has built her momtrepreneur platform on Instagram and TikTok, with more than 25 million views on her videos. She uses her exposure to highlight issues related to pregnancy and postpartum care for the benefit of women everywhere. The DownThere Doc believes all women benefit from a greater understanding of how the female body changes during and after pregnancy.
“My personal mission is to set a new standard of physical health and wellness so that birthing persons everywhere have the necessary preparation, support, and knowledge to navigate pregnancy, labor, and recovery regardless of status or background,” Dr. Marcy Crouch said.
When she saw a lack of available care tailored specifically for women, Dr. Marcy Crouch knew she wanted to create a solution to let women know they didn’t have to suffer from untreated pelvic floor issues. She built The DownThere Doc’s online course, Down There Done Right, to make expert support accessible to any woman with an internet connection.
Mom guilt is real, but it doesn’t have to win.
Dr. Marcy Crouch knows all about mom guilt—the way many women place a lower priority on themselves in favor of caring for their families. The DownThere Doc aims to change the way women think about their health.
“Martyr does not equal mother,” Dr. Marcy Crouch says. “You deserve to take care of your physical, mental, and emotional health without feeling guilty. Your kids deserve to see you take care of yourself, too. Great mothers fill their own cups, so they have plenty left over to give to their families, communities, and work.”
The DownThere Doc is on a mission to get women to invest in their health so that they can live happier, healthier, more fulfilling lives. Once a woman gives birth, she will always be postpartum. Her body undergoes massive and instrumental changes that require attention, but Dr. Marcy Crouch believes postpartum care doesn’t have to be depressing or difficult.
“You only have one body, so why not take care of it? There’s no reason a mother should still be suffering from incontinence, prolapse, or pain for years after having a baby.” she says.
Becoming a momtrepreneur
Starting a business from home during the pandemic with young children at home is no easy task—just ask Dr. Marcy. She started The DownThere Doc to shift from a clinician to an entrepreneur while juggling a busy home life. She is working to change the global standard of care for women and birthing persons everywhere. She doesn’t want women and mothers to lack access to pelvic floor rehab due to location, lack of insurance coverage, or inability to make it to appointments because of childcare limitations or work schedules. Empowering women and raising the standard of care isn’t just a business model to Dr. Marcy Crouch. It’s her professional mission.
Creating a community
When Dr. Marcy Crouch created The DownThere Doc, and her pregnancy and postpartum care online course, Down There Done Right, she did more than build a lesson plan; she created a community where women could share their experiences and learn the things they need to know about their health that no one else is saying. Down There Done Right is “prehab, rehab, and recovery” all rolled into one, offering women the knowledge they need to empower themselves through pregnancy, childbirth, and beyond.
