Primergy Solar signed a sole battery supply agreement with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) for the $1.2 billion Gemini solar + storage project outside of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Once completed, Gemini will be one of the largest operational solar and storage projects in the U.S., with a 690 MWac/966 MWdc solar array and 1,416 MWh storage capability.
Earlier in 2022, Primergy completed the procurement process and selected several equipment suppliers and construction partners for Gemini.
Primergy designed an DC coupled system for the Gemini project, which it said will maximize efficiency from the teaming of the solar array with the CATL storage system.
CATL will supply EnerOne, a modular outdoor liquid cooling battery energy storage system that uses utilizes advanced lithium phosphate chemistry. Primergy said the system is expected to have a long service life, high integration, and high degree of safety.
“With a cycle life of up to 10,000 cycles, the LFP-based battery product will contribute to the safe and reliable operation of the Gemini project,” said Primergy in a release.

In April 2022, Primergy announced it had secured financing for Gemini, which is expected complete in 2023. The project will deliver energy under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to NV Energy.
On Oct. 13 Renewable Energy World reported that Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, which manages Primergy Solar, sold a minority equity stake in the Gemini project to APG, a large pension asset manager based in the Netherlands.
APG agreed to acquire a 49% equity ownership on behalf of its pension fund client ABP. Financial terms were not disclosed. Gemini would be APG’s largest single solar + storage investment to date when it enters service.
