As an important part of the cultural industry and its undertakings, filmmaking has been included in the Belt and Road Initiative since 2015. As a result, Chinese and Asian films have experienced unprecedented opportunities.
Drawing the world's attention to China once more, the theme of the 2022 Asian College Students Short Video Exchange Exhibition was “stride towards the future together.” The students made short films to promote the exchange of Asian film and culture. Meanwhile, the exhibition aimed to encourage the exchange and promotion of exceptional films, gathering consensus on Asia's development, and stimulating innovation.
Since it began accepting submissions, the exhibition received 640 films from many universities throughout Asia. Following several rounds of selection, the final selection was conducted by Mr. Zhang Wendong, Dean of the School of Media Science in Northeast Normal University, who led the team of final judges. The team finally selected one Gold Award, two Silver Awards, three Excellence Awards, and five Special Jury Awards.
Looking back at the major award-winning films in this exhibition, despite the impact of the pandemic on the creative environment, the passion of the young creators from various countries remained. A large number of excellent works from young creators emerged as they sought to expand their cultural influence, demonstrating the strength of Asia's soft power, and enhancing cultural confidence through their creations. During the closing ceremony, the judges and creators discussed the future of Asian films produced by young creators.
This exhibition and online seminar aroused the creative enthusiasm of young Asian creators, providing new avenues for cross-cultural communication. Through learning and experience, additional outstanding creators and works will arise internationally.
Film is the most vivid and intuitive way to understand a country and its regional culture. Film will gradually become a channel of communication between countries and an important means of establishing friendship.
Multi-polarization and cultural diversity have strengthened around the world, molding film into an important Asian cultural output. Film is more than an endeavor or hobby for filmmakers and enthusiasts – it's a global platform featuring Asian culture's charm and renewed image.
This event was created to enhance the exchange and cooperation between Asian countries while revealing an open, inclusive, diverse, and united Asia to the world.
