Honolulu, HI Author Publishes Musical Memoir

By: PR Leap
(PRLeap.com) "Recital: Life, Love, and Music", a new book by Mary Ellen Lavelle, has been released by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc.

A life played out on the grand stage of family and personal struggle is revealed in the powerful new memoir, "Recital: Life, Love, and Music," by concert pianist Mary Ellen Lavelle. More than a performance history, this book is an honest and inspiring account of a woman who found her most profound music not on the keys, but in the challenging rhythm of her own life.

The memoir traces Mary Ellen's journey from a celebrated concert pianist to a devoted wife and mother. Her marriage to lawyer Frank Lavelle established a partnership where music was the "sweetness that balances their challenging life events." Their story, however, soon moved into a difficult movement. Amid raising four children, the family faced the crisis of a younger son's onsetting mental illness.

The score shifts again when a move from Washington, D.C., to Chicago and Frank's demanding professional commitments plunge Mary Ellen into a lonely stress that eventually leads to a struggle with alcoholism. The narrative takes a turn toward hope with her discovery of the supportive Winnetka Alcoholics Anonymous community, which not only brings her to a new, sober life but also inspires Frank to seek help at Hazelden. Though new challenges emerge, the couple emerges stronger, their bond deepened by shared vulnerability and recovery.

The book culminates with Mary Ellen attending Frank's 65th Harvard Reunion memorial service following his death. There, she finds enduring inspiration in the words of his classmate, Paulist Father Wilfred Brimley: "May those of us remaining be truth tellers and share our lessons learned."

"Recital: Life, Love, and Music" is a testament to the enduring power of music, the strength of a committed marriage, and the courage required to seek help and share a difficult, yet ultimately hopeful, truth. It is a must-read for anyone seeking an authentic story of resilience, love, and the notes of grace found within an imperfect life.

"Recital: Life, Love, and Music" is a 248-page paperback with a retail price of $44.00 (eBook $39.00). The ISBN is 979-8-89499-168-9.
