Newport News, VA - April 10, 2025 - Commissioner Tiffany Boyle officially launched her third term as Newport News Commissioner of the Revenue on January 1, 2026, marking a milestone defined by sustained leadership and continued transformation in local government. Boyle was sworn in on December 17, 2025, alongside her staff, in preparation for the term ahead.
First elected as a political underdog, Boyle made history as the first African American elected to serve as Newport News Commissioner of the Revenue. Three terms later, she continues to redefine what a constitutional office can be by prioritizing accessibility, innovation, and community connection.
“Politics in its purest form is about the people,” said Commissioner Tiffany Boyle. “This third term is about continuing to lead with integrity, opening doors for others, and ensuring our government truly works for those it serves.”
Since taking office, Boyle has focused on reshaping how residents experience local government by emphasizing clear communication, taxpayer education, and responsive service. Her leadership has demonstrated that local government can be both effective and compassionate while remaining grounded in fairness, accountability, and results.
Boyle’s historic election also helped usher in a new era of leadership in Newport News, particularly for women and African American women seeking to serve in constitutional offices. In the years that followed, Newport News voters elected Angela Reason as Clerk of the Court in 2019, Sanu Cooper as Treasurer in 2025, and Shannon Jones as Commonwealth’s Attorney in 2025.
Beyond Newport News, Boyle has played a visible role in strengthening civic and political relationships across Hampton Roads. She was an early supporter of Abigail Spanberger, Virginia’s first female governor, and assisted in building regional partnerships that elevated Hampton Roads’ voice in statewide conversations. She also collaborates with colleagues across the Commonwealth through the Commissioner of the Revenue Association of Virginia to advance best practices and taxpayer-focused initiatives.
In 2025, Boyle received multiple honors recognizing her leadership and service, including the Inside Business Women in Business Award, designation as a Nexstar Media Remarkable Women finalist, the National Federation of Women Legislators Elected Woman of Excellence award, recognition as an HRCAP Community Builder Award honoree, and graduation from LEAD Virginia.
Under Boyle’s leadership, the Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office advanced major modernization efforts by transitioning from a legacy mainframe system to the Revenue Assessment and Collections System (RACS), a secure, web-based platform. The modernization improved accessibility and efficiency, helping ensure more equitable access to services for residents across Newport News.
As she begins her third term, Boyle will continue to focus on taxpayer education, problem-solving government, transparency, and innovative service delivery while elevating Newport News’ voice in statewide and national public-service conversations.
