Marquis Who's Who Honors William R. Harbron, EdD, for Leadership in Public Education

UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / March 10, 2026 / Marquis Who's Who honors William R. Harbron, EdD, for his leadership and long record of service in public education. Dr. Harbron recently concluded a 51-year career that included roles as a teacher, principal and school superintendent. His work focused on strengthening schools, supporting educators and guiding districts through periods of change.

About William R. Harbron, EdD

Dr. Harbron devoted more than five decades to the field of education. He began his career in 1973 as an elementary school teacher for fourth- and fifth-grade students. During these early years, he developed a strong interest in educational leadership and the ways schools can support both students and teachers.

After gaining classroom experience, Dr. Harbron moved into school administration. At the age of 26, he became an elementary school principal. His first principal office was a small room, but the role marked the beginning of a long leadership journey. He later served as a middle school principal in several districts, where he helped guide staff and students through daily challenges and long-term improvement efforts.

Over time, Dr. Harbron advanced to the role of superintendent, eventually serving in this position in three different school districts. For the past eight years of his career, he led the Dover School District and SAU 11 in Dover, New Hampshire. He retired at the end of June 2025 after completing 51 years in public education.

Throughout his career, Dr. Harbron viewed education as more than a profession; he believed it was a calling. His doctoral research focused on the concept of calling in education and the belief that individuals are given unique gifts and talents that guide their work. For him, those gifts led to leadership in schools and the opportunity to support educators, administrators and students.

Dr. Harbron believes strong leadership in education is built on relationships. He values listening to colleagues, supporting teachers and working closely with administrators. Earlier in his career, he worked with a superintendent in Appleton, Wisconsin, who made a point of meeting with staff members each month. Those conversations left a lasting impression and helped shape his own leadership approach.

During his years as superintendent, Dr. Harbron worked to build strong teams and guide school communities through difficult moments. He believes that when educators feel supported and valued, students benefit as well. His goal was always to help school districts stay focused on their central mission of educating children.

The Importance of Leadership and Hard Work

Dr. Harbron credits his success to faith, hard work and the support of family and colleagues. He also believes that leadership grows through experience and by stepping outside familiar routines to learn from new opportunities. He encourages those entering the profession to view education as a meaningful path to influence others and serve their communities.

Following his retirement from public education, Dr. Harbron established WRH Coaching and Consulting LLC in 2025. Through this work, he focuses on coaching leaders and helping professionals grow in their roles. He believes that one-on-one conversations and mentorship can make a lasting difference in both organizations and individual careers.

Looking ahead, Dr. Harbron plans to continue supporting educators through coaching and public speaking. He remains committed to the idea that education is a profession built on service, relationships and the desire to help others succeed.
