After completing his Navy service, Mr. Rude used the GI Bill to continue his education, earning a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of North Dakota. He later expanded his studies into electrical engineering to better understand both the mechanical and electronic sides of the systems he worked with.
Mr. Rude's career included a stint at Honeywell as a research and development technician. In that role, he helped maintain and repair complex machines used in chip manufacturing. He later returned to military service with the United States Air Force in the Undergraduate Engineer Conversion Program and served as Project Manager, Advanced ICBM Guidance.
Following this, Mr. Rude built a long career with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
