Citizens Against Government Waste Releases Issue Brief on Comprehensive Healthcare Reform

Today, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) released a new issue brief, “Curing What Ails the U.S. Healthcare System,” co-authored by CAGW President Tom Schatz and Director of Health and Science Policy Christina Smith, which describes current problems and offers solutions to reform the U.S. healthcare system. The issue brief describes how government bureaucracy, subsidies, price controls, and red tape have distorted the medical marketplace, resulting in higher prices and less access for patients, and how to instead give patients more choices and control over their healthcare.

Co-authors Tom Schatz and Christina Smith issued the following statement:

“Congress and the Biden administration continue to increase the size, scope, and power of the federal government over healthcare. This includes the damaging pharmaceutical price controls in the Inflation Reduction Act, which will dramatically reduce future treatments and cures. CAGW’s report makes it clear that the best way to cure what ails the U.S. healthcare system is adopt fiscally responsible, free market, patient-centered reforms that will increase access to quality healthcare at an affordable cost.”

CAGW is the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.
