Author Dr. Lorraine Priest explores how leaders and organizations can build a successful decision-making process to more effectively manage crisis
University of Phoenix College of Doctoral Studies has released a new white paper, “Good Leader, Bad Decisions,” by Lorraine Priest, Ph.D., a member of the University’s Center for Educational and Instructional Technology Research (CEITR). In the paper, Priest explores how leaders and organizations may benefit from understanding the brain’s reaction when a crisis arises and using that understanding to build a successful decision-making process.
“Gaining an understanding of how good leaders make unwise decisions in crisis situations may assist others in being prepared in the decision-making process when facing a crisis,” Priest states. “Leadership effectiveness starts with understanding and empowering people in crisis situations to make decisions while maintaining good managerial and business practices.”
The white paper discusses the implications of the neuroscience of experiencing crisis, historical situations impacted by leadership decision-making in a crisis, and the impact of readiness.
Priest is a member of CEITR and serves as faculty in the College of Doctoral Studies, where she is a research methodologist and doctoral chair, helping guide students through the dissertation process. She also participates in the university's Dissertation to Publication workshop, in which faculty assist recent graduates with publishing the results of their dissertation studies in academic journals. Priest earned a doctorate from Walden University in Applied Management and Decision Science and completed her MBA with University of Phoenix. She has been with University of Phoenix since 1992.
The full white paper is available on the College’s Research Hub or as a direct link here.
