Quite simply, it ensures that businesses can take crucial strategic decisions smartly and make the best call in the long run. The customer-centric approach has been another hallmark of Portt, which has enabled it to cater to its specific requirements. In fact, it takes the effort to know what they could be looking for and offers them information accordingly. That’s certainly true for the webinar it hosted that focused on the new government’s proposed policies for procurement leaders.

Paul Hannan, Group Director, Chief Procurement Officer, NSW Department of Education, Lesley Skinner, Director, Commercial Law and Procurement, Department of Regional NSW, Scott Alden, Partner, HWL Ebsworth Lawyers, and Justin Sara, Director ArcBlue were the experts who discussed the two major Labor policies that are set to have an impact. 10-point Buy Australian Plan and National Anti-Corruption Commission were the two policies in focus in the webinar organised by Portt.

New government policies mean dramatic changes in public and private sector procurement can occur. They often result in companies having to comply and change plans at the last minute. The webinar by Portt was designed to ensure procurement leaders and enterprises have early insights on how to prepare for the changes brought on by these new policies well in advance.

The esteemed speakers focused on each of these policies and talked about the challenges they present and how enterprises in public and private sectors can navigate them. For example, in the 10-point Buy Australian Plan, Paul Hannan said, “The government tends to bundle things up and build them into a size that becomes more on the radar of international players wanting to participate. Splitting procurement into sections means more administration needs to be done. Still, it could also mean it allows us to target SMEs while providing greater control over procurement and more resilience against that challenge.”

The National Anti-Corruption Commission emphasizes the need for better record-keeping in procurement departments. “In South Australia and Western Australia, 50% of corruption reports are related to procurement,” said Justin Sara, highlighting the situation. The speakers then talked about the changes due to the commission and how enterprises can be prepared for them. That’s how once again, Portt set the stage for conversation and dialogues that offer crucial insights to procurement leaders.
