Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute Launches New Level 1 Central Time Zone ‘Treatment of Trauma’ Training

The Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute (SPI), a professional international educational organization focused on advanced body-oriented therapeutic modalities, has released details of its newest Level 1 introductory training opportunity.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for the Treatment of Trauma will be led by Raymond Rodriguez, LCSW-R, Rev., an accomplished trauma specialist with over 20 years of professional expertise.

Live, interactive sessions will be held according to CTZ timings, and up to 39 CE credits will be awarded upon completion to eligible participants, with clinicians and graduates able to record up to 78 hours of Continuing Professional Development.

What to Expect From the Treatment of Trauma CTZ Level 1 Training

This latest program from SPI begins on December 5, 2024, with an early registration discount available until October for those keen to reserve a spot. Over the training modules and experiential sessions, participants will cover a broad area of topics, including:

  • The gaps in traditional psychotherapy that do not address the physiological elements of trauma and may overlook the bodily impacts and somatically driven symptoms of trauma.

  • How Sensorimotor Psychotherapy provides practitioners and professionals with body-oriented interventions to safely and gently explore somatic activations related to traumatic experiences and enables them to track and name those symptoms.

  • An introduction of competencies that allow practitioners to work with clients experiencing disruptive behaviors, emotional processing challenges, and disturbed cognitive responses—helping them to restore a sense of self.

Each technique will be taught in a phased manner, which aligns with the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy approach. Attendees will learn how to stabilize a client initially before moving forward to work on symptom reductions.

By the end of the program, which concludes on June 26, 2025, participants will benefit from a baseline knowledge of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy as a modality, the shortcomings of conventional talk therapies, and how to introduce this technique to assist, broaden, or improve the variety of approaches they have available to trauma clients.

Hybrid-Online Level 1 CTZ Learning Opportunities From the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute

As with many of the educational programs and trainings offered by the Institute, this Level 1 program provides a combination of ways to study, share thoughts, participate in real-time therapy sessions, and engage in self-learning to cement the information covered in live and group modules.

While interactive sessions, including the orientation session and closing session, will be hosted by Raymond Rodriguez, with ample opportunities for attendees to discuss feedback and insights, other aspects of the training can be completed at the participant's convenience to accommodate busy schedules.

The SPI welcomes a wide range of attendees to register their interest. The training is relevant to existing therapists, counselors, mental health professionals, and those working in allied professions, as well as graduate and postgraduate students looking to extend their knowledge of somatic therapeutic modalities.

Founder of the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute, Pat Ogden, PhD, says, ‘Our flagship Level 1 trainings are always in high demand. They provide practitioners and participants with a baseline introduction to the modality of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and explore how this works in real-world client treatments, either independently or alongside more conventional talk therapies.

We welcome those keen to attend to register promptly or get in touch to raise any questions since spaces are limited and often reach capacity soon after the details are announced.’

Interested participants can review the full schedule and timings via the SPI's website, with the opportunity to register early for a discounted enrollment fee.

The training pages provide specific dates and times for orientation and closing sessions to allow these to be pre-scheduled with advance notice.
