Glen Rose Professional Chaplain Training To Empower Schools: Course Announced

The National School Chaplain Association (405-831-3299) has issued an announcement regarding the ways in which their professional chaplain training course can help support schools in and around Glen Rose.

The recent announcement highlights the ways in which a trained school chaplain can function as a source of empowerment for elementary, middle, and high schools, as they are able to relieve the burden on teachers while serving the spiritual needs of PK-12 students, staff, and families.

More information about the training program can be found at https://www.nationalschoolchaplainassociation.org/your-school

As school safety continues to be a growing topic of concern across the United States, the updated professional training program from the National School Chaplain Association equips service-minded individuals with the skills necessary to support students and teachers and includes Active Shooter, Threat Assessment, and Stop the Bleed safety certifications.

Recent statistics from U.S. News and World Report show that teacher resignations and staff turnover rates are at an all-time high across the nation, with many educators citing burnout and security concerns as reasons for leaving the field. Recognizing the need for greater support in educational settings, the NSCA course is designed to give individuals the tools to empower schools and staff members. “School chaplains help increase teacher retention rates,” explains a spokesperson. “The ‘ministry of presence’ provides teachers and staff with a place to turn when life gets hard.”

While the NSCA notes that school chaplains are not therapists, they point out that chaplains are trained to offer a nonjudgmental outlet for individuals to unload stress and anxiety, while providing spiritual support.

With the aforementioned safety certifications as an integral part of the training, chaplains are also taught to recognize potential school safety issues before they escalate, helping to contribute to a safer learning environment for students and staff.

The NSCA chaplain certification course is available for anyone with a background in ministry or education and includes a nationally recognized school chaplaincy qualification, guidance on how to integrate chaplains seamlessly into schools, and continued educational training and support.

According to the organization, successful school chaplaincy incorporates a 5-point process: introduction and relationship building, awareness created through on-site visits, active engagement with staff members, 24/7 chaplain access by phone and secure app, and offsite supervision from the NSCA’s Senior Chaplain Board.
