Zambia Nonprofit Promoting Village Reforestation, New Online Platform Launched

Rain Drops Community Foundation, a grassroots nonprofit organization based in Silundu, a small off-grid village in the Western Province of Zambia, announces a new online platform.

Following the recent announcement, the nonprofit has created a new online hub with the goal of connecting with a larger community, gaining more knowledge about eco-friendly practices, and sharing its latest community-building projects.

Dedicated to fighting deforestation and addressing climate change in its local community, Rain Drops Community Foundation embraces all opportunities for community engagement. With its online platform, the nonprofit seeks to raise more awareness for its causes, garner more support for its projects, and learn more effective ways to carry out grassroots operations.

Rain Drops Community Foundation was founded in 2019 by Namwaka Waluka and Godfrey Mulenga Mushinta. Since its establishment, the nonprofit has been engaged in reforestation projects, planting acacia, mongogo, and fruit trees, and distributing the seeds among the local Silundu community.

In addition to planting trees, the nonprofit has taken up several community-building initiatives, providing food, water, shelter, and other necessities to people in their village, sharing knowledge of the local production of charcoal briquettes (manufactured from organic waste and byproducts like rice husks) as an alternative to the traditional wood charcoal production that causes deforestation in their community, and more.

In 2024, the nonprofit aims to ensure financing for the supply of electricity to its village for the first time, fund a pump and filter for safe drinking water, deliver supplies to a small roadside shop front, fund a refrigerator, and organize a communal charging hub for the village.
