What To Expect From Air Lease’s (AL) Q4 Earnings

Aircraft leasing company Air Lease Corporation (NYSE:AL) will be reporting results tomorrow after market hours. Here’s what investors should know.

Air Lease beat analysts’ revenue expectations by 2.5% last quarter, reporting revenues of $690.2 million, up 4.7% year on year. It was a strong quarter for the company, with an impressive beat of analysts’ EBITDA estimates and a solid beat of analysts’ EPS estimates. It reported 485 owned aircraft, up 8.3% year on year.

This quarter, analysts are expecting Air Lease’s revenue to decline 2.1% year on year to $701.4 million, a reversal from the 19.1% increase it recorded in the same quarter last year. Adjusted earnings are expected to come in at $0.75 per share.

Analysts covering the company have generally reconfirmed their estimates over the last 30 days, suggesting they anticipate the business to stay the course heading into earnings. Air Lease has missed Wall Street’s revenue estimates six times over the last two years.

Looking at Air Lease’s peers in the industrial distributors segment, some have already reported their Q4 results, giving us a hint as to what we can expect. GATX delivered year-on-year revenue growth of 12.2%, beating analysts’ expectations by 2.4%, and MSC Industrial reported a revenue decline of 2.7%, topping estimates by 2.7%. GATX traded up 8.3% following the results while MSC Industrial’s stock price was unchanged.

Investors in the industrial distributors segment have had steady hands going into earnings, with share prices flat over the last month. Air Lease’s stock price was unchanged during the same time and is heading into earnings with an average analyst price target of $55.50 (compared to the current share price of $46.13).
