Sit-in in front of the U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa: “We demand that the murderer of Patrick Lyoya be brought to justice” (Declaration)

By Voldy Matiafu

A sit-in was organized by human rights defenders and members of Patrick Lyoya’s family on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, in front of the U.S. Embassy in Gombe. The objective was to demand

– the prosecution of the American police officer who murdered Patrick Lyoya in Michigan, USA, on April 4, 2022;

– that the American government take charge of the family of the victim, in particular his wife, his children and,

– that the American government assume its responsibility to protect all blacks and particularly Congolese living in the United States.

As a reminder, Patrick Lyoya of Congolese nationality was killed by an American policeman for not having brandished a driver’s license, according to some members of the family of the illustrious missing man and human rights defenders.

Shortly before the end of the sit-in in front of the U.S. Embassy, the organizers of this activity expressed themselves in these terms:

“We have the indignation to declare with bitterness the death of our comrade aged 26 years killed by an American policeman for not having brandished his driving license. Thus, we demand that the murderer of our brother be brought to justice and that his widow and two orphans be taken care of by the government. We demand compensation from the American government. Nevertheless, we remind the US Embassy in Kinshasa as well as the authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to follow this loan file at the level of the American government until justice is done as soon as possible,” reads a statement.
