Award-winning author Debbie Schrack releases new novel “Over the Fence” in paperback and e-book formats

By: Get News

Debbie Schrack, a former teacher and award-winning young adult author, has released her latest novel titled "Over the Fence." The book is now available in paperback since April 17th and e-book since May 2nd. The book depicts the story of Eve Anderson, who was kidnapped 11 years ago from her front yard in Oklahoma, and Emma Love, who recently moved to Bell Meade with her aunt. The two girls form a connection through the fence that adjoins their backyards, where Emma finds comfort talking to Eve about her sister Noelle's situation, and Eve sees parallels between Noelle's case and her own.

Debbie Schrack's previous book, "Saving Sophie," won the 2022 Paris Book Award for young adult fiction, and she also won the SCBWI Haunted States of America Award for the state of Virginia. Debbie is a former UVA alumnus and mother who was heartbroken over Yeardley Love's death, a senior and lacrosse player at the University of Virginia, who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in 2010. The character of Noelle is loosely based on Yeardley's story. The character of Eve is a composite of two girls, Elizabeth Smart and Jaycee Dugard, who were abducted from their homes by psychopaths and held captive.

Over the Fence is a compelling story of courage, hope, and strength. Although not overly graphic in nature, this novel does depict instances of domestic violence and the physical assault of a minor. It is not for everyone, and readers are advised to take caution. Readers who want to know more about the topic can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline or the Missing and Exploited Child Hotline.

As an award-winning author with a passion for writing stories that challenge and inspire, Schrack hopes that "Over the Fence" will not only entertain but also raise awareness and spark conversations about these important issues.
