Have you ever thought to yourself, “Hey self, wouldn’t it be cool if there were more of me?” Well, now with the help of AI, you can at least create a digital “clone” of yourself with which you can chat, converse, and discuss various things about your childhood traumas, all without any code.

If you’re a fan of the TV show Black Mirror, you may remember the episode from Season 2 called “Be Right Back” in which the desperate and forlorn Martha utilizes an AI service to recreate (at first) her late lover in the form of a chatbot. This act is so successful that she progresses further and further into cloning and well, I won’t spoil the end if you haven’t seen it. At the time of airing in 2013, this was just a cool sci-fi idea. But ten years later, it’s real and it’s easy.

Platforms like Momento AI promise to “create your very own AI clone” without using any code. Simply upload information and data about yourself, train the AI a bit on the info, and voilá, you’ve got a clone with which you can chat 24/7 and even let “followers” have access to your clone as well.

These types of products can seem at once unsettling and extremely promising. On one hand, you’re basically granting a website access and ownership to your likeness, which presents a ton of possible issues like selling your info, chat abuse, or data leaks. On the other hand, being able to converse with a real version of a loved one or friends who have passed on could be incredibly healing, to say the least.

With tools like Resemble.AI, you could even create a clone of your or someone else’s voice. Resemble Clone is geared toward creators’ scalability issues with audio and speech for things like voiceovers immersive VR experiences, animated films, or audiobooks, but you can easily imagine how a similar AI-speech tool could be used to recreate yourself, friends, or even actors’ voices.
