Caring for a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease can be an overwhelming journey, but no one should have to navigate it alone. Beginning in March, a new monthly dementia support group will provide guidance, education, and community for caregivers facing the challenges of dementia care.
The first session will take place on Wednesday, March 5th, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Red Mountain Community Center, 7550 E Adobe St, Mesa, AZ 85207. Once registered, attendees will receive an email with full event details.
This free support group is designed for family members and caregivers of individuals diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, covering every stage from early diagnosis to late-stage care. Each month, expert-led discussions will focus on key topics such as managing difficult behaviors, encouraging daily routines, promoting healthy eating, and exploring cognitive therapy techniques.
Participants will receive a comprehensive resource binder with practical information to assist them in providing quality care. The sessions will include discussions on:
The stages of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease
The importance of daily routines
Tips for overcoming bathing and eating challenges
Strategies for handling difficult scenarios
Cognitive therapy techniques
And much more!
The March session will focus on understanding a dementia diagnosis, helping caregivers grasp what their loved ones are experiencing. Topics will include:
Different types of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease
The basics of caring for someone with dementia
Do’s and don’ts when assisting a dementia patient
Adjusting to the "new reality" as a caregiver
