New York Hall of Science Honors Boingo Wireless with the 2024 Vision and Venture Award

World-class 5G and Wi-Fi provider for New York’s airports, transit hubs and commercial real estate properties is recognized for two decades of technology innovation, leadership and community impact

Boingo Wireless, a leading connectivity provider, has been honored by the New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) with the 2024 Vision and Venture award for its leadership in technology innovation and its transformative connectivity solutions that improve everyday life for New Yorkers and the tri-state region. As NYSCI celebrates 60 years nurturing passionate learners, critical thinkers and active citizens, Boingo and its CEO, Mike Finley, will be presented with the Vision and Venture award at NYSCI’s Celebrate Science and Inspiration Gala on Monday, Nov. 4.

“Empowering youth to solve problems using science, technology, engineering, and math is critically important for New York. Boingo deeply appreciates NYSCI’s work in Queens and throughout all boroughs to prepare our young citizens by building their confidence and encouraging the pursuit of STEM careers. For 60 years, NYSCI has been committed to our youth. And, a commitment to our youth is a commitment to New York’s future,” said Finley. “It’s an honor for Boingo to be recognized for the important role we play in connecting this great city, helping it become smarter, greener and safer.”

“We are proud to celebrate Mike for his on-going commitment to the next generation of New Yorkers and learners of all ages,” said Lisa Gugenheim, CEO and President of the New York Hall of Science. “This partnership with Boingo - along with leaders in finance, technology and AI - exemplifies NYSCI’s cross sector model for success, combining imaginative exploration, real-world engineering and life-changing technology. NYSCI and Boingo recognize the importance of exposing young people to science, engineering and technology in and out of the classroom.”

Boingo is a leader in deploying intricate wireless solutions, contributing significantly to some of New York’s most substantial infrastructure projects. This includes working with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) to launch next generation 5G and Wi-Fi networks at Grand Central Madison. By designing, building and managing state-of-the-art cellular and Wi-Fi networks, Boingo enables riders to make calls, send text messages and access the internet while in transit. Boingo also supports the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) with converged cellular and Wi-Fi networks at JFK, LGA, EWR, SWF, World Trade Center Oculus, Port Authority Bus Terminal, PATH Stations, Lincoln and Holland Tunnels and Port Newark Container Terminal.

Finley added, “There is so much progress to be celebrated throughout the tri-state area. New York is at the forefront of smart city innovation and the opportunities to continue building an even better tomorrow are within our grasp thanks to places like NYSCI where students can learn and grow. The next generation of wireless won’t build itself. It’s up to public and private partnerships to inspire, educate and equip a workforce of the future through programs that break new ground.”

Boingo hired interns from Queen’s College at its New York office over the summer. Featuring an immersive experience that integrates hands-on projects with mentorship from engineering leaders, the Boingo internship program nurtures local talent, creating opportunities for college students to thrive in the tech industry. The company’s New York headquarters are located at Rockefeller Center.

Finley will accept the prestigious NYSCI award on Boingo’s behalf. In addition to Boingo CEO, he serves on the Regional Plan Association board and has been recognized on City & State’s Transportation Power 100 list, the Queen’s Power List from Schneps Media and as one of PoliticsNY’s Power Players in Transportation.
