Epic Sports Marketing opens early registration for the Lake Norman Elf Classic, offering a competitive half marathon and 5K run, scheduled for December 20, 2025.

-- The annual event, a festive counterpart to the popular Lake Norman Half Marathon Forest Run & 5K, draws professional and competitive runners from across North Carolina and the surrounding region. Participants will have just three and a half hours to complete the on-road course, which includes a varied mix of inclines and declines to challenge their physical fitness.

Epic Sports’ Marketing’s Elf Classic encourages runners to test their endurance in cold-weather conditions while celebrating the holiday season, combining athletic achievement with festive spirit. Participants can choose from a half marathon (13.1 miles), a 5K (3.1 miles), or a virtual run of any distance, with all courses beginning and ending at the Lake Norman Picnic Ground.
Early registration for this holiday-themed run has its advantages. Training and preparation are critical for half marathon performance, and research from Runner’s World in 2023 highlights that athletes following structured 12-week training plans reduce injury risk and improve finishing times. Securing an early spot will, therefore, allow participants to plan their training schedule effectively.
Additionally, half marathon entrants who register early are eligible for a hoodie, while 5K runners are guaranteed a short-sleeve tech t-shirt if they sign up by November 30, 2025. Additional “swag” items, such as a cup, beanie, and race decal, are also included with early registration.
Awards will be presented to the top three men and women overall, as well as in each age group, for both the half marathon and 5K events. Virtual participants are not forgotten with a medal and race shirt shipped to them after the event - just in time for Christmas.
In the spirit of giving associated with the holiday season, The Elf Classic is about giving back to the community. Proceeds from the event go to support the Human Health Project, a local organization providing grants and non-perishable food donations to North Carolina food shelters. Therefore, in addition to their registration fee, participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to support the charity.
Leah, who competed in last year’s event, said: “This race was full of holiday cheer and a perfect way to spend a Saturday morning before the holidays!”
